War veteran Cde Malani Ncube, 57, who died last month in the United Kingdom, has been declared a liberation war hero.
Cde Ncube died on December, 11, last year in the UK where he had gone to study and was working part time as a security officer.
He joined the liberation struggle in 1978 after crossing into Zambia where he received his military training in Membeshi before being selected for further training in the former Yugoslavia.
At independence in 1980, he worked in the office of the late Zapu Vice President Josiah Chinamano. Later that year, he joined the police force and then the President’s Office in January 1982.
In 1989, Cde Ncube was attached to the Zimbabwe Embassy in Ethiopia and returned to the country five years later, before retiring in May 2001.
Zanu-PF acting Provincial chairman Christopher Dube described the war hero as someone who was loyal and dedicated to his work.
“During his service he received a liberation war medal and independence medal. He was devoted to his work and was a loyal son of the soil,” Dube said.
Cde Ncube is survived by two daughters; Marcia, 30, and Spiwe, 19.
