Malaria on the decline in Manicaland

An official in the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare malaria department Dr Stanford Mashaire said the cases continue to decrease countrywide.
“We have seen a decrease in malaria cases in the past few weeks countrywide, but in particular in Manicaland, where there was an outbreak,” he said.

Dr Mashaire said Governemnt would continue educating communities on malaria prevention and investigate all related deaths.
According to the weekly report in Manicaland, 7845 cases were recorded last week compared to 9 149 the previous week.

Mashonaland West province also showed a decline from 1 847 to 1 713 malaria cases.
Malaria cases in Zimbabwe rise in February and peak in April and May.

Although preventable and treatable, malaria continue to claim many lives throughout Zimbabwe.
About 45 of the country’s districts mostly in border areas such as Mudzi, Kariba, Matabeleland North and some parts of Mashonaland Central are susceptible to malaria.
