Cape Town — EFF leader Julius Malema has been suspended from Parliament for 30 days without pay, according to reports. Malema and 19 MPs were found guilty this week on all charges arising from their disruption of the National Assembly during President Jacob Zuma’s question time on August 21. They were apparently unhappy with Zuma’s replies to questions about his private home in Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, where R246m of taxpayers’ money had been spent on upgrades.
According to eNCA some MPs were suspended for 14 days without pay, while others have to apologise.
Journalist Chantall Presence tweeted: “Parly committee recommends Malema, Shivambu, Ramakatsa, Litchfield-Tshabalala, Gardee, Ndlozi be suspended for 30 days w/o pay.”
Update: According to Sapa, Parliament’s powers and privileges committee recommended suspension on Friday.
The recommendation was that EFF leader Julius Malema, chief whip Floyd Shivambu, Mpho Ramakatsa, Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, Godrich Gardee, and Mbuyiseni Ndlozi were set to receive the harshest sanctions. – Reuters.
