Mambas in control at halfway stage

BLACK Mambas will go into the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League mid-season break leading the standings after they edged title aspirants Golden Eagles 1-0 at Ellis Robins.

The Police outfit are yet to taste defeat after 17 opening matches. They wrapped up the opening half of the campaign with 37 points from 10 wins and seven draws.

“Warumwa Warumwa”, as the team is fondly-known, leads the standings ahead of Harare City who are five points behind on 32 points. The John “Toto” Ncube-coached side will go to the mid-season break at the apex and the coach said he is looking forward to boosting his side during the two-weeks.

“We are very pleased with the progress the team has made and I believe they will need to start from where they left. I think we are playing as a unit.

“For years we have been re-building the team and this season we have surpassed our expectations and we hope to do well in the second half. This break will help us to boost some of the areas which we believe we need to bolster,” said Ncube.

Meanwhile, the Northern Region League will take a two-week mid-season break. The league’s chairman Martin Kweza confirmed the development. “We have just come to the end of yet another exciting first half of the Ruyamuro Northern Region Soccer League 2023 season which was action-packed.

“In line with the previously communicated NRSL 2023 Soccer Season Road Map, the league will take a two-week break and resume action on July 22.

“Kindly note that there will be further communications in the intervening period regarding other exciting developments,” said Kweza.
