A 46-YEAR-OLD man from Murehwa is on the run after allegedly raping and impregnating a 15-year-old girl.

The matter came to light when the girl’s uncle discovered that she was pregnant, resulting in a report being made to the police.

Mashonaland East police spokesperson Inspector Simon Chazovachiyi said in July this year, the 15-year-old ran away from home after she misbehaved and went to her friend’s homestead.

“One afternoon, the friend travelled to Harare and left the girl with her father. Reports are that the father then went unto the bedroom where his daughter’s friend was sleeping and he told her that he wanted her to be his wife.

“The 15-year-old girl is said to have rejected the request.”

The man went on to close the door and raped the girl once, before ordering the girl to never reveal the incident to anyone or risk being killed if she told anyone of the assault.

Police say the matter only came to light on September 16, when the girl’s uncle heard through rumours that his niece was now pregnant.

“The uncle then interviewed the girl and she narrated her ordeal. On Monday this week, the uncle made a report at ZRP Murehwa. The suspect is still on the run,” said Insp Chazovachiyi.

Meanwhile, police in Marondera have arrested a couple, Colleen Munemo (30) and Shepard Mugava (29) from Landas, near Mahusekwa in Marondera in connection with the death of their six-month-old child.

The incident occurred at Landas Business Centre recently.

Reports are that the couple had a misunderstanding during which Munemo accused Mugava of not taking care of their child.

Allegations are that on September 19, around 11pm, Munemo, who stays not far from where Mugava resides, went to Mugava’s place where she dumped the baby at his doorstep and fled.

Reports are that Mugava came out of his room and tried to persuade Munemo to take the baby with her and in the process a misunderstanding arose.

It is alleged that during the scuffle, Munemo picked the infant from the doorstep and threw him towards Mugava, telling him to take care of his child.

However, it is reported that the child fell to the ground and started bleeding from the nose and mouth, leading to his death.
