Harare man has appeared in court for allegedly vandalising copper that was stationed inside a ZESA pillar box with his two accomplices.

Tinashe Mathew Mutyambizi (28) was charged with contravening the Electricity Act by interfering with apparatus for generating, transmitting, distributing or supplying electricity.

He appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Appollonia Marutya and was remanded in custody pending bail application today.

It is the State’s case that on November 16, at the corner of 39th and 28th Street in Old Highfield, Harare at a ZESA pillar box at around 8:30am, Mutyambizi, with his two accomplices Edgar Nyabereka who was remanded in custody on 18 November for this same case and another one only identified as

They then forcibly opened it and cut away the copper armoured cable which was housed inside.

Some vigilant residents discovered the offense, gave chase and apprehended Nyabereka whilst Mutyambizi and Ethel escaped with the loot.

A manhaunt was made leading to the arrest of Mutyambizi at his alternative address after a raid was made on November 23.
