A 46-year-old man died in hospital after allegedly being assaulted by his girlfriend’s husband, who reportedly found them sleeping in a bedroom at his homestead in Shurugwi.
Anyway Zhuwawo, from Mapfumo Village under Chief Negomo in Murehwa, sustained head injuries and a broken ankle during the alleged assault at Dendere homestead in Dendere Village, under Chief Banga, on 11 October.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the murder case, saying investigations were underway to establish the full circumstances surrounding Zhuwawo’s death.
“It is alleged that Zhuwawo had spent the night at his girlfriend Kuitakwashe Musaigwa’s home while her husband, Moreblessing Dendere, was away on a visit to Mutare,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Dendere allegedly returned home at around 10pm without informing his wife and found Zhuwawo and Musaigwa sleeping in the bedroom.
Dendere allegedly attacked Zhuwawo with an unknown blunt object, striking him all over the body.
“Zhuwawo reportedly escaped from the homestead and made his way to his place of residence while naked, having sustained serious injuries,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Zhuwawo was taken to Gamwa Clinic the following day for treatment before being transferred to Shurugwi District Hospital, where he later died while admitted.
Police received a report of his death at Tongogara Police Station on 15 October at around 10am.
Insp Mahoko said police were appealing for information that could lead to Dendere’s whereabouts as investigations continued.
“We are keen to hear his side of the story on the allegations of murder, which he now faces,” he said.
