The Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Tafanana Dzirutwe, said the incident occurred between 15 and 20 April at Glen Gray Village under Chief Sigola area. The suspect and the 48-year-old complainant divorced two years ago.
“The suspect went to his ex-wife’s home at Zimbili resettlement area. On arrival at the victim’s homestead he asked the woman to accompany him to Glen Gray but she refused and an argument ensued,” he said.
The suspect then threatened to assault the complainant before he force-marched her to his home.
He held the complainant for five days during which he raped her.
“The suspect locked the victim in his bedroom hut for five days during which he raped her several times,” said Insp Dzirutwe.
The complainant, however, managed to escape after she took advantage of the suspect’s absence. The man had left his home to attend a meeting in the same village.
A report was made to the police and no arrest has been made.
“We have since launched a manhunt for the suspect who is still at large. As police we are also appealing to anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to contact us or visit any nearest police station,” said the police spokesperson.
