He was granted $120 bail and the court ordered him to reside at his given address until the finalisation of his case.
He should surrender his passport to the Clerk of Court and should not interfere with State witnesses.
The court heard that between 24 February and 16 March this year, Chiponda allegedly visited Mr Wayne Newton Brenner, the proprietor of Grey’s Garage on four occasions.
The State alleges that Chiponda would demand money or fuel purporting to be a Zanu-PF member adding that fuel would be used by the party’s youths to travel to Chipinge for the 21st February Movement Gala.
The State will seek to prove that he did this without the blessing of the Zanu-PF provincial leadership.
On 16 March, Chiponda again went to Grey’s Garage and found the complainant away but his wife was there.
After failing to see Mr Brenner, Chiponga allegedly left a message, which read: “Tell him this is Zimbabwe and not Rhodesia. I am coming to kill him.”
The wife told the husband when he came back and a report was made to the police leading to Chiponda’s arrest.
