A ROWDY Plumtree man went berserk and smashed property worth $300 at a bar after the barman refused to serve him at 3AM as the place had already closed.
Brighton Nzarambiri smashed a door and windows at Dumms Palace Bar using a brick and an empty beer bottle after the barman indicated that he could not be served as they had closed.
Nzarambiri was convicted of malicious damage to property by Plumtree magistrate, Gideon Ruvetsa.
He was sentenced to nine months imprisonment and three months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
The remaining six months were further suspended on condition that he performs 210 hours of community service at Plumtree magistrate’s court.
Nzarambiri told the court that he was drunk when he damaged property at the bar.
He said he did not realise the severity of his actions as he was acting under the influence of alcohol.
Prosecuting, Elisha Mazorodze said Nzarambiri destroyed property valued at $300.
“On July 26 around 3AM Milton Nkomo who works as a barman at Dumms Palace Bar was with his workmates winding up as they had closed for the day. Nzarambiri arrived and knocked violently on the French glass door with an empty beer bottle,” he said.
“Nkomo went out of the bar and told Nzarambiri to leave as they were closed.”
Mazorodze said Nzarambiri left but returned a few minutes later and knocked for the second time and demanded to be served beer.
He said Nkomo chased him away, but instead of leaving he smashed the door once with a brick.
Mazorodze said Nzarambiri then smashed three windows with an empty beer bottle.
He said Nkomo and his workmates pursued him and handed him over to the police.
