A MARRIED man who allowed his girlfriend to have a relationship so that they could “harvest the other man’s money,” allegedly axed his rival suitor after the affair got serious. Fanuel Sibanda, 32, of Insuza pleaded not guilty to assault before magistrate Tinashe Tashaya, who remanded him in custody to May 5.Sibanda allegedly got jealous when his small house, Pretty Ndlovu began enjoying her affair with Future Ncube.

Ncube in his statement said he knew Sibanda as Ndlovu’s uncle. He said he had even discussed marrying Ndlovu with Sibanda as he accorded him respect befitting his beloved’s uncle.

On April 11, at Mindora Village at around 1AM Sibanda, who apparently could no longer stomach hearing Ndlovu was spending most of her time with Ncube in his bedroom, armed himself with an axe and confronted the lovers.

Ncube said he was bewildered as he opened the door and Sibanda started to assault him. He said Sibanda struck him with an axe at the back of his hand, punched him and whipped him.

The court heard that Ncube was treated at Mpilo Central Hospital after sustaining a deep cut on his neck and injuries all over his body. Ncube told the court that Ndlovu fled when Sibanda got violent.

“He struck me with the axe on my neck and foot and I fell to the ground. “When I regained consciousness I told community members and they assisted me to get to the clinic from where I was rushed to Mpilo (Central) hospital,” he said.

Prosecuting Denmore Kasenza said Sibanda knocked on Ncube’s bedroom door demanding to see his “girlfriend” while the couple slept.
