A MAN allegedly struck his mother with an axe on the head, undressed the body, dragged and then dumped it in a disused toilet in a maize field.
Nelson Zinyoro, 19, of Chihota Village, under Chief Mudzimurema, has since been arrested in connection with the death of his 52-year-old mother, Tambudzai Maruza.
He even participated in the village search for his mother.
Zinyoro was arrested on Tuesday.
He is being accused of striking his mother on the head with an axe and she died instantly.
According to the police, Zinyoro then undressed the body of his mother and, with the help of a friend, Gift Nyamadzawo (28), dragged the deceased into a disused toilet.
They then blocked the entrance into the toilet.
The two are also suspected of burning the victim’s clothes.
Investigators say Zinyoro later retrieved his mother’s bedroom keys and took her goods with the intention of selling them.
The items included solar panels, an inverter, two cellphones, and scotch-cart wheels.
Zinyoro allegedly started selling the goods to villagers, which prompted suspicion in the community, and ultimately led to his arrest.
The family had reported Maruza missing on February 13.
Zinyoro’s father also took part in the search alongside other villagers.
Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Simon Chazovachii, confirmed the arrest and said police investigations were in progress.
He added that two men had been detained in connection with the murder in Chihota Village.
“Police arrested two men in connection with murder in Chihota.
“The now deceased had been reported missing on February 13, 2026.
“The suspects are facing murder charges.”
A villager told H-Metro:
“What shocked us is that Nelson was among villagers looking for his mother when he knew about his evil act.
“We are still in shock, undressing h1s mother’s body.
“The clothes were burnt into ashes.”
As the solar panels, an inverter, two cellphones and scotch-cart wheels started to disappear, and began to be sold among villagers, suspicion turned to Zinyoro.
“As the search for Tambudzai stretched across days, a father’s pain turned into a demand for answers.
“The village watched and waited and, in time, the whispers found a doorway into the truth: a murder tied to property,” said another villager.
