A PREGNANT Eastview woman, believed to have been savagely assaulted by her lover, has died.

Shamiso Kandalasi, 34, who was seven months pregnant, was allegedly assaulted by Kenneth Chendambuya, 44, of Tarisa Park, Ruwa.

According to reports, Chendambuya attacked her using his hands and an empty beer bottle on Monday at Mutamba Shopping Centre in Ruwa.

The assault is said to have happened in the presence of Chendambuya’s other girlfriend, Patience Kazingizi, 22.

Patience rushed Shamiso to Mabvuku Poly Clinic, where the victim died.

Sources said Patience did not disclose the assault, to the clinic staff and, instead, claimed she had experienced complications related to her pregnancy. Patience said the incident was not related to her romantic relationship with Chendambuya.

“I did not know why they started assaulting each other, although it happened in my presence,” she said.

“I came to understand that we were both lovers of Chendambuya but, on this day, their misunderstanding had nothing to do with me.”

She added that she used a taxi to ferry Shamiso to the clinic, where she was pronounced dead.

Other witnesses reported the assault to police, leading to Chendambuya’s arrest.

Shamiso’s body was then taken to the mortuary at Parirenyatwa Hospital for a post-mortem examination. Meanwhile, there was drama when some friends of the deceased allegedly diverted the body to Mutamba Shopping Centre, without the permission of her relatives.

A clash broke out between the in-laws, disrupting plans for Shamiso’s burial in the Benson area, Goromonzi.
