Thupeyo Muleya, Beitbridge Bureau
A 32-year-old man from Beitbridge is battling for life after he was assaulted with a machete by a gang during a brawl at a night club.

Nathan Chirwa incurred severe injuries in the head and hands as a result of the assault.

Police have so far arrested two members of the gang in connection with the case.

Chirwa is admitted to Beitbridge District Hospital.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident yesterday.

“We have received a report of assault where one man was attacked by a gang using a machete and empty beer bottles,” he said.

“However, we are still investigating the cause of the fight and at the same time we want to urge people to desist from resolving disputes violently. So far two suspects; Ayanda Moyo and Mlungisi Murengisi have been arrested in connection with the matter. The machete has since been recovered from the two suspects”.

Sources close to the case said the fight could be linked to an unresolved dispute which started at Dulivhadzimo bus terminus the day before the attack.

They said Chirwa was a rank marshal while some members of the gang were from Emawabeni area in Esigodini.
