A GANG of eight thugs is on the run after allegedly beating a man to within an inch of his life, for refusing to tell them his name.
The gang dragged the victim out of a toilet at a random house where he had sought refuge, viciously rained blows on him before stabbing him several times and leaving him for dead.
Bulawayo Police Spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident, which occurred in Cowdray Park on 17 August 2026 at around 7PM.
“A male adult aged 46 of Cowdray Park had left his residence heading to a local tuck-shop when he encountered eight unknown male adults,” Insp Msebele said.
Tensions flared at the shop.
“One of the accused persons asked for his name. When he refused to provide it, the group became angry and violent,” she said.
“One suspect broke an empty beer bottle and struck him on the head several times while others assaulted him with open hands and fists.”
The victim tried to escape but the thugs pursued him.
“Sensing danger, he fled to a nearby house and locked himself in the toilet. The accused persons forced the door open with an unknown object, dragged him out and continued assaulting him,”
Inspector Msebele added.
“One of them produced an Okapi knife and stabbed him on the left thigh, and hit him with an unknown object on the left shoulder before leaving him bleeding on the ground.”
The gang left the victim in a bloodied heap as they fled from the scene.
“As a result of the incident, he sustained cuts on the head, one cut on the left thigh and was complaining of pain all over the body. A police report was then made,” Inspector Msebele said.
Authorities are now seeking information from the public.
“We appeal to members of the public with any information that may lead to the arrest of the accused persons to come forward and report at any nearest police station,” she said.
