A MAN from Mbembesi appeared in court yesterday for assaulting his wife and 79-year-old father.

Jackson Chishombe, 28, pleaded guilty to two counts of physical abuse before magistrate Tinashe Tashaya.

Chishombe, who was once jailed for two months in 2013 on a theft charge, told the magistrate that he did not know what drove him to commit the crime.

“My stay in prison changed me and made me a better person. I don’t know what came over me when I assaulted my wife and my father,” he said.

Prosecuting, Nkathazo Dlodlo said on April 19 at Ntabazinduna suburb in Mbembesi at around 10PM, Chishombe’s wife Nyarai Nyoni, 27, asked him why he was in the habit of coming home late every day and this did not go down well with him.

“Chishombe got angry and assaulted Nyoni with an iron bar once on the forehead,” he said.

When his father, Weekmore Chisombe, 79, tried to restrain him, Jackson attacked him with fists.

Tashaya said Chishombe had not reformed and needed more time in prison to reflect on his actions.

The magistrate remanded him in custody to April 29 for sentencing.
