A 20-month prison sentence has been handed down to Solomon Mathew Zvapangana (23) from Marange Growth Point, who was found guilty of unlawful entry and theft after he broke into a local college and stole school uniforms and underwear among other items.
In a statement, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe revealed that on 2 and 3 September Zvapangana cut a fence at Holy Ghost College to gain entry to the premises under the cover of darkness.
“He proceeded to the male hostels and broke the window before getting into the hostel. The accused person stole uniforms, including four skirts, six sweaters, two boxer shorts, five woolen hats, four satchels, four bags, 58 male pants, 15 bedcovers and four irons, and went unnoticed.
“The complainant Justice Mafi who is employed by the Holy Ghost College as the headmaster noticed the missing property and reported the matter to the police. Investigations were carried out leading to the accused person’s arrest. The accused person was found in possession of the stolen property in his mother’s bedroom. The complainant recovered all the property, valued at US$1 963,” reads the statement.
The accused person was sentenced to 20 months imprisonment and 8 months were suspended for 5 years. Further 12 months were suspended on condition that he performs 420 hours of community service. (Sunday News)
