After suffering heartbreak, things got worse for a Kensington man after he found his ex-lover in bed with another man, and in a fit of rage, he set the hut the two love birds were in on fire, before slicing the man with a machete.
Mandlenkosi Mhlanga (40) who is from Kensington Farm on the outskirts of Bulawayo, appeared before Esigodini resident magistrate Prince Jeconia Ncube facing two counts of attempted murder.
He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 24 May where he will appear before a regional magistrate in Gwanda.
It is said on a date not known to the prosecutor but sometime in February this year at around 1130pm, Mhlanga visited his ex-lover at Sigola area and peeped through a window and saw her lover in bed with another man.
After that, Mhlanga ordered her to open the door but she refused. It is alleged that in a fit of anger, Mhlanga tied the door handle with a wire and set the kitchen hut on fire.
Seeing the room ablaze, she escaped through the window while her lover bolted out through the door.
Mhlanga, the court heard, pursued his rival and caught up with him before slicing him with a machete on the shoulder and punching him all over the body.
He was restrained by a villager. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Mhlanga.
