A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Epworth is facing charges of attempted murder and engaging in sexual relations with a minor after allegedly attacking his teenage wife with an axe, severing her ear and injuring her arm, during an argument over domestic issues.

Tafadzwa Mutsiki yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa and was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

He is expected to return to court on October 13.

Prosecutor Ms Mercy Masamvi told the court that on Wednesday, at house number 16104 in Overspill, Epworth, Mutsiki assaulted his wife, who is 17 years old, after accusing her of being disrespectful.

The couple had been living together for five months.

On the day of the attack, Mutsiki reportedly asked his wife to prepare a meal for him.

While she was cooking, he picked up a metal axe and struck her on the right arm before severing her right ear.

The complainant, left bleeding profusely, was verbally insulted by Mutsiki as she lay in a pool of blood.

The court also heard that Mutsiki impregnated the complainant in 2022.

The couple now has a one-year and eight-month-old child.

Mutsiki faces additional charges of engaging in sexual relations with a minor, as the legal age of consent in Zimbabwe is 18.
