A BULAWAYO man who was arrested after trying to sell dagga to a police officer yesterday told a magistrate that he used the illicit drug to treat migraines.

Tembo Fombe, 54, and his accomplice Khumbulani Dube, 45, appeared before magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure facing a charge of possessing dagga.

The pair pleaded guilty and was remanded in custody to today for sentence.

Prosecuting, Dlodlo said on May 3 at corner Robert Mugabe Way and 10th Avenue at around 11PM, Fombe and Dube tried to sell the dagga to a police officer who was on patrol.

The court heard the pair are vendors whose sell sweets and cigarettes in front of a pub in the city centre.

Fombe, in his defence, told the court that he used the dagga to cure his migraine. “I suffer from migraine headaches. I smoke dagga to ease the pain,” he said.

Dube apologised to the magistrate and begged the court to be lenient with him.
