Man clobbers dad to death over beer

A 26-year-old man allegedly struck his father to death with a pestle for refusing to give him money to buy beer. Simbarashe Karonga yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Bianca Makwande facing murder. He was remanded in custody to October 18. Ms Makwande advised him to apply for bail at the High Court.Prosecuting, Mr Peter Kachirika alleged that on October 1, this year at in Epworth, Simbarashe asked his father, Shacky Karonga, for money to buy beer. The father refused and an altercation ensued.

Simbarashe allegedly picked a pestle and struck his father several times on the head. The father started bleeding from the nose and sustained a swollen head and face.

He was taken to Parirenyatwa Hospital where he later died. The court heard that Simbarashe is temperamental and is of a violent nature.
