A yet to be identified elderly man collapsed and died on Wednesday afternoon at the corner of Robert Mugabe Way and 9th Avenue.

When a Zimpapers news crew got the scene, paramedics had arrived and confirmed that the man, believed to be in his 70s, had passed away.

Police were expected to attend the scene and ferry the body to a local hospital for a postmortem and notify the deceased’s next of kin.

Witnesses from nearby shops said the eldely man collapsed near a construction site before an ambulance was called to the scene.

“He was walking along Robert Mugabe and suddenly collapsed although he did not appear to be in pain. We understand that he was employed as a driver at a local boarding school,” said one witness.
