A 43-year-old Chitungwiza man yesterday committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree, police have said. Harare provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tedius Chibanda confirmed the incident, saying investigations were in progress to establish what really transpired.“We received a report following the death of Wilbert Musara who resided at Ridgeview High School in St Marys who hanged himself with a wire on a tree located in a school yard,” he said.
Inspector Chibanda said the reason Musara took his life was not known even by his wife and brother whom he stayed with.
He said Musara’s wife and brother confirmed that they were living happily, with no domestic disputes.
It is alleged that on the night of December 11, Musara retired to bed with his wife, but later woke up at around 2am and went outside.
Police reports indicate that his unsuspecting wife thought he was going to relieve himself.
At around 4am, Musara’s wife woke up and discovered that her husband had not returned to bed, prompting her to alert his brother and the two conducted a search.
Musara was later found hanging from a tree and a report was made at St Marys police station. His body was taken to Chitungwiza Central Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem.
