A BULAWAYO man allegedly cut off his testicles and ate them while disbelieving Tshabalala residents watched in shock. Clayton Pedzisai Nyambaware, 25, said to be a father of two, reportedly went to a corner near Elangeni Beer garden in the suburb on Thursday and sat by the road side before cutting off part of his testicles. He is recovering at Mpilo Central Hospital.

Residents said they still could not fathom how Nyambaware survived the self mutilation as he was bleeding profusely when police intervened to stop him from harming himself further.

“He sliced off his genitals and held them and with blood dripping from them, shoved them into his mouth and started chewing. I do not think he is normal,” said a witness who declined to be named.

Nyambaware reportedly looked calm as medics battled to stem the bleeding wound, as he was put into an ambulance and rushed to hospital.
Sources close to the family alleged that he was bewitched after bedding a relative’s wife.

“This man bedded his relative’s wife and his gruesome actions are a result of a spell that was used to fix him. I believe he deserves all the pain for his mischief. We are however grateful he is alive,” said the woman.

One Tshabalala resident Lucky Phiri said, “I do not understand how this man is still alive as he bled profusely after cutting his genitals. I do not know what prompted him to do it, but he has to be insane to muster courage to inflict such pain on himself.

“He was lucky police were nearby and handcuffed him before he could do more harm to himself. He seemed determined to continue cutting his privates. I wonder why he ate his own testicles,” he said.

Another resident who spoke on condition of anonymity said Nyambaware showed some symptoms of mental disorder.
“I think this man lost it yesterday and cut off his genitals. When we got to the scene we did not see any pieces of the testicles. Vendors who operate from near the beer garden confirmed he swallowed them. I hope he will recover and maybe explain to all of us why he acted in such a bizarre manner,” said the man.

Chronicle caught up with the ailing Nyambaware at his hospital bed where he seemed to be in great pain.
He confirmed doctors managed to stitch him up but said he was in pain.

“I am alive and almost recovering. The doctors bandaged me and I am now able to eat. I cannot however sit up properly as I am in great pain,” he said as he started fanning his lower body under the blanket.
