Man denies paternity of two kids

Court Reporter
A Harare man denied paternity of two minor children at the Civil Court yesterday, accusing his ex-wife of having extra-marital affairs during the subsistence of their marriage.

Jona Rufaro said he was reluctant to pay for the upkeep of the children until they undergo paternity tests.

He was taken to court by Forget Magurira who was claiming $100 per month for the upkeep of the two children.

“He is a soldier who gets his salary at every month-end, but he is not contributing anything towards the children,” Magurira said.

She told magistrate Mr Tafadzwa Muvhami that Rufaro ran away from their matrimonial home with all her clothes and was refusing to give them back.

In response, Rufaro denied being the father of the two children and offered to pay $70 per month for the two minor children pending paternity tests.

“I don’t think the first child is mine because she gave birth to him six months after we started sleeping together which clearly indicates that she was already pregnant,” he said.

Rufaro said he was prepared to go for paternity tests with the children.

Mr Muvhami ordered Rufaro to pay the $70 per month towards the upkeep of the two children pending paternity tests.
