Police in Bulawayo are investigating a fatal hit-and-run road traffic accident that claimed the life of a pedestrian along Intemba Road in Luveve on Sunday evening.
Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu, deputy Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, confirmed that the body of a man believed to be about 30 years old was found lying on the left lane near Chigumira shops and Thembiso durawall at around 7PM on 27 July 2025.
“The deceased was wearing a brown work suit bottom and a blue track jacket. It is suspected that the driver, who is yet to be identified, was travelling due north and struck the man before fleeing the scene,” said Assistant Inspector Ndlovu.
Police observed faint skid marks on the left side of the road, suggesting that the driver tried to brake but failed to avoid the collision.
The pedestrian sustained fatal head injuries and died on the spot. His body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) Mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Police are appealing to the public to come forward with any information that could assist in tracing the driver.
“We urge anyone with relevant information to report at the nearest police station to help bring the responsible person to justice,” Assistant Inspector Ndlovu added.
