A SOMBRE but tension filled atmosphere pervaded the burial of Mr Kwete Noko at Umvutshwa Cemetery in Bulawayo yesterday with the family saying circumstances surrounding his death remain shrouded in mystery.

Mr Noko is said to have been having problems with his wife whom he was accusing of cheating on him with their landlord’s son.

A version of the story s the woman is alleged to have teamed up with her lover to assault Mr Noko after he busted them.

The two have, however, been cleared by police after the post-mortem results showed that Mr Noko died from bleeding profusely under unclear circumstances.

The two were in police custody at Magwegwe Police Station from Monday to Wednesday and were released following the outcome of the post-mortem.

According to a relative who spoke to Sunday News at the funeral, Mr Noko came home on Monday morning and allegedly found the two locked up in the house. He is reported to have watched the two having sex before running amok and destroying window panes demanding them to open the doors.

Following his malicious damage to property, the two (his wife and landlord’s son) came out where a fight is said to have allegedly ensued.

“Mr Noko died on Monday at Mpilo Hospital and the post-mortem has since revealed that he succumbed to profuse bleeding. It also noted that the bleeding is from unclear circumstances.

“When I got to Pumula, his wife and the landlord’s son were in custody at Magwegwe Police Station where they were supposed to face murder charges. They were in custody on Monday and Tuesday and were only released after engaging lawyers as well as availing of the post-mortem report. When I got to the house there were broken window glasses outside the house,” said the source.

He said there was a tense atmosphere as the family was not happy with the circumstances under which Mr Noko died while the elders of the family were trying to calm down tempers.

Another source said it was unclear why Mr Noko ran amok and broke window panes saying he could have discovered something that really got him angry.

“We fellowshipped with this couple and it is alleged that the wife had an illicit affair with the landlord’s son. On New Year’s Day, the wife suggested that they go visit their families each. The wife, however, did not go but instead remained behind, while the husband also went and drank with friends. Instead of proceeding to his family home, he returned back to the house and found his wife in bed with the landlord’s son.

“He watched them for a while before losing his temper and shouted that they open the door. They refused and he started vandalising the window panes. Eventually they opened the door and all hell broke loose. It is said a fight ensued from where Mr Noko got stabbed and was cut by pieces of glass while other claim he was stabbed on the arm by one of the two,” said the source.
