A 50-year-old man from Kwekwe who allegedly sold State land for more than $25 000 has appeared in court.

Oneas Mare of Number 2, Park Street Newton, Kwekwe appeared before Gweru Magistrate Mrs Florence Nago on Thursday facing three counts of fraud.

He was remanded to August 29 on $300 bail.

Prosecutor, Mr Lloyd Mavhiza said Mare lied to three people that he had a farm in Matobo area just outside Gweru which he was selling.

He said in May last year, Patricia Chirove was advised by one Lednos Kumirai that Mare was selling a farm in Matobo area.

Chirove met Mare along Main Street in Gweru on May 5 last year and gave him $8 000 as part payment for the farm.

“In June 2015 without the offer letter the complainant approached the Provincial Lands Office in pursuance of an offer letter and was told that it was unlawful to obtain an offer letter for the land already having a beneficiary since it was State-owned and no one had the right to sell it,” said Mr Mavhiza.

On the second count, the court heard that in May last year, Patience Matsiwo was offered the land and parted with her vehicle, a Lexus RX that Mare valued at $8 000.

Mr Mavhiza said in June last year, Justin Tarabuku approached Mare when he heard that he was selling a farm.

He said Tarabuku paid $9 800 and the remaining $1 000 was to be paid after the pegging and production of an offer letter had been done.

When Mare failed to deliver the matter was reported to the police.
