A MAN exhumed the body of his aunt, who was buried 24 years ago, to try and get her wedding ring at a village under Chief Musana.

Challenge Jasi, 38, visited Mermaid Pools Cemetery, along Shamva Road, and exhumed the remains of his aunt Rosina Dipazhi.

She was buried there sometime in 2002.

He stashed Rosina’s remains in a sack during the night and made his way to Harare where he was arrested for possessing human remains.

Upon being quizzed by police, Jasi said he had exhumed the remains in order to clean them and search for a wedding ring.

The remains in the sack included bones, ribs, a skull, a metal cup, a live scorpion, and a clay pot.

In an interview, one of Jasi’s relatives, Fadzanai Dipazhi, confirmed the death and burial of Rosina at the cemetery along Shamva Road.

“We are not aware of the exhumation incident. The deceased was buried sometime in 2002 at a cemetery along Shamva Road.”

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, could not be reached for comment.

However, H-Metro is reliably informed that Jasi was taken to Highlands Police Station and the case is being investigated under RRB 695168.
