A MBARE man struck another man with a stone for trying to restrain him from inflicting more harm on a woman he was bashing at Mupedzanhamo market.
Amos Hasha, who also tried to escape from custody at Matapi Police Station after his arrest, is now facing attempted murder charges.
He appeared before Harare regional magistrate, Feresi Chakanyuka, facing charges of attempted murder and escaping from lawful custody.
He was denied bail and remanded in custody to May 15, pending the completion of investigations.
According to the State, the incident occurred on Friday, at around 6pm, at Mupedzanhamo Market.
It is alleged that Hasha was assaulting a woman, only identified as Mai Joze, when a passerby intervened in an attempt to stop the attack.
Hasha allegedly turned on the man and struck him once on the nose with a stone, leaving him with a deep cut.
The victim was taken to hospital and is not yet in a condition to give a full statement.
A medical affidavit is still to be obtained.
In a separate charge, the court heard that after his arrest, Hasha escaped from Matapi Charge Office before being formally detained.
Police officers gave chase and arrested him as he attempted to jump over a fence.
