US$50 note on Wednesday appeared in court charged with murder.
Julius Hwere (29), Ronald Mhizha (32) and Precious Hwede (25) are employed as bouncers at Samuel Chihovo’s (31) Toyo nightclub in Mkoba 15.
It is the State’s case that Chihovo who also works at Thornhill Airbase reportedly assaulted Nobert Tsakatsa (25) when he tried to buy beer using the fake US$50 note.
The quartet pleaded not guilty to the charge when they appeared before Gweru magistrate Ms Jeslene Mashiri.
They were remanded to September 27 on US$200 bail each. They were represented by Mr Brian Dube. As part of their bail conditions, Ms Mashiri ordered the four not to interfere with State witnesses, reside at their given addresses, surrender their passports and not to travel over 40km out of Gweru.
Chihovo had earlier on complained before the court that he was denied water, medical attention and was head butted by one of Tsakatsa’s relatives while in police custody.
Prosecutor Mr Andrew Marimo alleged that on September 10 at around 2am Tsakatsa tendered a fake US$50 to a cashier to buy beer.
The cashier reportedly alerted Chihovo who took him to his office at the nightclub where they teamed up and took turns to assault Tsakatsa. It is alleged the quartet assaulted him on the head and all over the body using button sticks and hands.
The State says upon realising Tsakatsa was motionless they dragged him to the nightclub entrance where they dumped him.
The following day, a passer-by reportedly saw Tsakatsa’s body and a police report was filed leading to the quartet’s arrest.
