The robbery suspects later dumped the body of the man behind Malamulela Business Centre.
Police identified the dead man as Andiseni Dube (28) of Simango Village under Chief Malisa.
Acting Midlands police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Dube was found dead at about 9pm on Sunday, his body dumped behind Malamulela Business Centre.
He said the incident happened when Dube was coming from a beer drink at Malamulela Business Centre.
“On the said day, Dube left Malamulela Business Centre alone where he was drinking beer, intending to go to his home. It is alleged that he was followed by a group of six suspects, namely Brenda Ndlovu, Bheki Ndlovu, Clemance Ndlovu, Knowledge Ndlovu, Lavious Mpofu and Thamsanqa Dlodlo, all from Simango Village. The six suspects allegedly attacked Dube while still on his way, about 5km from the business centre,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
“They allegedly stabbed him with a knife and a screw driver on the right rib and left upper shoulder, before searching his pockets and taking away $60. The body was found dumped behind Malamulela Business Centre by another man from Malamulela Village who then reported the matter to the police,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
The acting Midlands police spokesperson said the police attended to the scene and the body was ferried to Kwekwe District Hospital mortuary where it’s awaiting a postmortem.
He said all the six suspects were still at large and the police have since launched a manhunt for them.
“Police are appealing to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects behind this murder to contact any nearest police station to them. They may also make use of our suggestion boxes dotted around all our police stations and police posts in the country,” said Asst Insp Mahoko.
Andiseni Dube’s murder occurred just two days after another man from Lower Gweru area was gruesomely murdered under almost similar circumstances.
The man was identified as Artson Dube (40) of Sinangeni Village under Chief Bunina. He was found dead on Friday last week, on the roadside of the Lower Gweru Mission-Maboleni road by a fellow villager.
Dube’s relatives suspected their relative was killed for ritual purposes by unknown assailants.
Police said Dube was discovered with a deep cut on his ear and a slit throat.
