A Bulawayo man from Iminyela suburb is fighting for his life at Mpilo Central Hospital after a brutal assault by 11 men who accused him of stealing their welding machines and gas cylinders.
The incident was confirmed by Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube.
Insp Ncube urged community members to report crimes to the police instead of taking matters into their own hands.
“We would like to discourage community members from resorting to violence whenever they are faced with disputes. They should engage police, elders in the community or a pastor rather than taking law into their own hands,” he said.
He said they have managed to arrest two accused persons –Perfect Mpofu (26) and Bhekimpilo Sibanda (28).
“We appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of other accused persons. Anyone with information may contact any nearest police station,” he said.
While Clive Moyo (26) was at his workplace at Kelvin North where he works as a welder, Mpofu, Sibanda, and nine other friends pounced on him.
“They found him working at his workplace. One of the attackers tripped him, causing him to fall to the ground before they began hitting him with stones,” said a witness.
While writhing in agony on the ground, one of the men allegedly stabbed him in the head with an okapi knife.
“He bled profusely and lost consciousness. A Good Samaritan then administered first aid before taking him to the hospital for medical attention,” said the witness.
