IN a bid to recover battery terminals which were stolen at his workplace, a Sakubva man assaulted his workmate with an iron bar.

Rambai Muradzikwa (39) was convicted on his own plea of guilty to the charges of assault when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura recently.

Prosecuting was Mr Fletcher Karombe.

It was the State’s case that Muradzikwa assaulted Titus Murombo several times on his left hand and head using an iron bar following a misunderstanding over stolen battery terminals.

Murombo sustained injuries on his head and his left hand respectively.

“On November 24 at Murahwa Green Market, Sakubva, Muradzikwa accused Murombo of stealing his battery terminals, an allegation which Murombo denied .

“The two had a misunderstanding leading to the assault of Murombo.

“Muradzikwa assaulted him four times on his left hand and head using an iron bar.

“He sustained some injuries and was not medically examined,” stated Mr Karombe.

When asked to explain why he had assaulted Murombo, Muradzikwa denied assaulting him with an iron bar, but rather told the court that he used his hands to assault him.

He went on to tell the court that the complainant had provoked him and they were fighting.

“We were fighting, Your Worship. I never assaulted him with an iron bar.

“I used my own hands. He also provoked me after I asked him about my battery terminals which were missing.

“However, I erred, Your Worship. May you please forgive me,” pleaded Muradzikwa.

Mrs Chiundura ignored the fact that they were fighting and ordered him to pay a fine of $150.

“Mr Muradzikwa crime does not pay. You have to desist from that bad behaviour.

“Since you were fighting, I would rather advise you to report if you feel like doing so,” said Mrs Chiundura.
