A Domboshava man who insulted his father-in-law through text messages after having a misunderstanding with his wife was recently ordered to pay a fine of US$200.
Christopher Nowa (47) pleaded guilty to contravening the Postal Telecommunications Act when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Ms Evelyn Mashavakure.
The State proved that on October 29, at Munemo Village, Chief Chinamhora, Domboshava, Nowa intentionally sent a text message that was grossly offensive to his father-in-law Wonder Chenjerai.
Nowa begged for forgiveness before the court, saying that he spoke the bad words out of anger.
The message was written:
“Huyai mutore mwana wenyu kana muchida achiri mupenyu hindava machine hunhu hwakaora so.
Nowa then made a telephone call again to his father-in-law with the purpose of causing annoyance by insulting him saying “imbwa dzevanhu, go and report where you want. I am prepared to die”.
