Man fined for negligent cycling

Clement Ngwenya (27), a gardener at Number 79 Cecil Avenue in Hillside pleaded guilty to contravening Section 51 (1) of the Road Traffic Act, Chapter 13:11 (drive without due care and attention) before Bulawayo provincial magistrate Mrs Thobekile Mkhosana-Matibe.

 

The court gave him up to the end of next month to pay the fine.

Mr Carrington Dhliwayo, for the State said on 2 October this year, at about 6 pm, Mr Manuel Kirk was driving a pick-up truck due north along Napier Avenue.

When approaching the intersection of Napier Avenue and Devon Road in Hillside suburb, Ngwenya, who was cycling along Devon Road failed to give way and rammed into the motor vehicle.

As a result the vehicle had dent and panel beaters said the repairs would cost $250.

Ngwenya’s bicycle broke the front fork and wheel.
