POLICE in Bulawayo have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a man’s body along a footpath near the railway line connecting Luveve 5 and Cowdray Park on Sunday morning.
The deceased, who had not been identified by the time of going to print, was found lying face down beside the footpath with deep cut wounds.
Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Thandekile Ndlovu said the incident occurred at around 6:30am on August 30.
“On the 30th of August 2026 at around 0630 hours, a passerby was walking along a footpath connecting Luveve 5 and Cowdray Park. When she reached an open space near the railway line, she saw the body of a male adult lying beside the footpath, facing downwards,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
She said the passerby inspected the body and discovered that the man had sustained two deep cuts.
“Upon checking, she saw that the body had two deep cuts, one on the stomach and another under the left arm. Broken beer bottle pieces stained with blood were also seen beside the deceased’s body, and it is suspected that they were used to stab him,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
The matter was subsequently reported to the police, who attended the scene.
The body was later taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police are appealing to members of the public who may have information that could assist in identifying the deceased or lead to the arrest of the suspect to come forward.
“We appeal to members of the public with information that may lead to the arrest of the accused person to come forward and report at any nearest police station,” she said.
Police have also urged members of the public to exercise caution when travelling through secluded areas, particularly during off-peak hours.
“We urge members of the public to avoid walking alone in secluded and poorly lit areas as they put themselves at risk of being raped, robbed or murdered,” said Asst Insp Ndlovu.
