A 28-YEAR-OLD man was found hanging from a tree on Tuesday morning in Bulawayo’s Pumula East suburb.

The deceased’s identity is being withheld as police are yet to notify his next of kin.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said the deceased was found in possession of identity particulars and a suicide note.

“We are investigating a case of sudden death of a male aged 28 from Pumula East suburb. The deceased was found hanging on a marula tree by the informant. He was found with his passport, birth certificate and a suicide note,” said Chief Inspector Simango.

Police urged people not to resort to ending their lives when facing challenges in life but to seek help from family and friends.

“We are appealing to members of the public to seek counselling and share their grief with family members and friends. As the police force, we are sending our deepest condolences to the bereaved family,” said Chief Inspector Simango.

Police had collected the body when B-Metro arrived at the scene. However, a crowd had gathered where the deceased was found hanging.

Residents who spoke to B-Metro said the deceased had not shown any signs of trouble although he was a quiet person.

B-Metro had not managed to gather the contents of the suicide note at the time of going to press.

“He was an introvert. He kept to himself most of the times but this is very shocking as he never seemed to be the person who could do such. I just do not know what is happening to our youth. Life has become fragile,” said Nelson Dube of Pumula East suburb.

A Mrs Masina from Pelandaba West suburb said:  “This place is now haunted. We need a cleansing ceremony, just last month, a pupil was found hanging in one of the houses nearby. There is a bad spirit hovering over our community.”
