The man was also accused of robbing the woman of her generator, an inverter and a solar panel.
Elvis Ndou denied being on the wrong side of the law on three counts of rape and another three counts of attempted murder.
However, resident magistrate Mr Owen Tagu convicted him on the strength of evidence provided by the state.
Ndou was sentenced to 10 years in jail for the first count of attempted murder, which will run concurrently with the 20 years of rape.
He was further slapped with 10 years each on the other two counts of attempted murder.
Charges against Ndou are that on January 5 this year, he went to his niece’s homestead at Foromela village.
On arrival he went to the kitchen where he armed himself with a knife and later gained entry into the complainant’s bedroom through the window.
While inside the room, he found the woman sleeping with her four children and demanded money from the complainant.
The woman, however, indicated that she had no money prompting Ndou to order all of them out of the blankets.
He stabbed the victims among them a six-year old girl inflicting injuries all over their bodies.
The victims were taken to Beitbridge District Hospital for treatment.
The woman managed to unlock the door and fled with Ndou in hot pursuit.
He later caught up with her and raped her once at knifepoint.
He then force-marched the woman to her bedroom hut where he raped her two more times.
Soon after committing the offence he took away a diesel powered generator, an inverter and a solar panel before disappearing into engulfing darkness leaving his blood stained trousers.
A report was then made to the police leading to Ndou’s arrest.
