A soldier stationed at Inkomo Barracks was yesterday fined US$200 for beating up his four-year-old daughter on several occasions whenever the minor soiled her pants. Kudzai Madare (29) was charged together with his wife Scholeen Chafa (23), who is a stepmother to the child. Madare denied charges of ill-treating and neglecting his daughter before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Timeon Makunde.

Mr Makunde slapped him with a fine. If he fails to pay, he will spend 40 days in prison. In addition, he was sentenced to a wholly suspended five-month jail term on condition of good behaviour.

Ms Ntombikayise Nleya prosecuted.
Proven facts were that on June 17 this year, Madare’s mother visited his workplace where she dumped the minor child.

The court heard that on the same day, Madare took the child to his house in Chitungwiza’s Unit L where he told his wife what had happened.
While at home, Madare would beat up the minor for soiling her pants.

A neighbour reported the abuse to the police leading to his arrest. A medical report indicated that the minor sustained serious bruises from the assaults.

Ms Ntombikayise Nleya prosecuted.
