Man hangs self after row with mother

A 31-YEAR-OLD man from Victoria Falls allegedly hanged himself with a piece of wire in his parents’ garden following a misunderstanding with his mother.

The Chronicle was told that Darlington Tshuma had attempted suicide twice before claiming that his family did not love him.

His father Mr Gladwell Moyo said Darlington hanged himself last Tuesday night after his mother Ms Sithandazile Tshuma chastised him for being irresponsible.

He said on his first attempt, Tshuma, who wanted to hang himself using a rope, was restrained by neighbours and on the second attempt his family had to rush him to hospital after he consumed poison.

“We were working together and the challenge would come each time he got paid as he would spend all the money on beer. His mother would rebuke him for not taking care of his wife and son and he would claim that the family did not love him. On Tuesday he took all his pay and went to drink beer and returned at 8PM when he threatened to kill himself,” said Mr Moyo.

He said the family rushed to the police to seek guidance when Tshuma threatened to kill himself on Tuesday night.

“We tried to talk to him but to no avail. We left him with his wife and younger sister as we went to the police to seek help and that’s when he took the opportunity to hang himself using a piece of wire. He was sitting outside when he tip-toed into the garden and hanged himself. His wife and young sister watched helplessly as he choked to death,” said Mr Moyo.

Police attended the scene and took the body to Victoria Falls Hospital mortuary awaiting post-mortem. Acting Matabeleland North police spokesperson Sergeant Namatirai Mashona confirmed the incident and advised members of the public to seek professional help when faced with domestic problems. @ncubeleon
