A HARARE man appeared in court facing forgery charges after allegedly falsifying documents to gain access to a bank account.

Admire Chisadza appeared before Harare magistrate, Mr Tapiwa Kuhudzai, charged with forging identification documents in a bid to unlawfully access funds from an account held at a local bank.

The State alleges that on April 1, 2026, at around 2.40pm, Chisadza went to NMB Bank at Joina City in Harare and approached a bank official, Ms Marshet Mangena, indicating that he wanted to unlock an account belonging to Christopher Dembezeko.

It is alleged that Chisadza misrepresented himself as the account holder and produced a certified photocopy of a national identity card bearing his photograph but with Dembezeko’s personal details.

Using the forged document, he reportedly obtained a bank card linked to the account.

The court heard that Chisadza later returned to the bank on April 24, 2026, in a further attempt to unlock the same account, which had since been blocked after funds were reported stolen.

On that day, he allegedly submitted a signed letter accompanied by passport-sized photographs, again posing as Dembezeko.

However, the complainant became suspicious and contacted the genuine account holder to verify the details.

It was then discovered that the documents presented, including the earlier national identity card, had been forged.

The bank official alerted security personnel, leading to Chisadza’s immediate arrest.

Further investigations, including a review of CCTV footage, reportedly confirmed that he was the same individual who had previously visited the bank and obtained the bank card.

The State contends that Chisadza was attempting to defraud the bank using falsified documents.

He was remanded in custody pending further proceedings.
