A 34-year-old man from Goromonzi appeared in court yesterday for allegedly killing his uncle on Saturday by hitting him on the head four times with a truck wheel spanner while he was asleep.

After committing the murder Fanuel Masora dumped his uncle’s body at a neighbour’s half-built                                              house.

Masora was remanded in custody when he appeared before Harare magistrate Mrs Munashe Chibanda charged with murdering Magijo Masora (71) and was told only the High Court could grant bail on a murder                                                  charge.

Prosecutor Mr Rufaro Chonzi alleged that at around 12:30am the uncle was sleeping at his house in Phase 4 Eastview Goromonzi.

Fanuel allegedly woke up and took the truck wheel spanner on a table and hit his uncle four times on the head. He died on the spot.

Once sure Magijo had died, he carried the body to a neighbour’s house which is under construction and placed it in one of the unfinished rooms. Fanuel returned to his home and cleaned the blood off the floor using a piece of cloth.

He then told his cousin Tatenda Masora that he had killed his father and the case was reported at Mabvuku Police Station. Investigations were carried out and witness statements recorded leading to the arrest of Fanuel.

The murder weapon was also recovered.
