A Domboshava man who allegedly took advantage of a patron who had left the club to relieve himself, assaulting and robbing him of his cellphone and money has appeared in court.
John Chimbende (28) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi charged with robbery.
He was remanded in custody pending a bail application to be done on Wednesday.
Prosecuting, Mr Zebediah Bofu alleged that on November 10, Chimbende was drinking beer at Library Night Zimbiru Business Centre, in Domboshava in the company of his two accomplices who are still at large.
While in the nightclub at around 4am, the complainant Edwin Chitsungo who was seated in the night club went outside to relieve himself.
Chimbende and his accomplices followed him and manhandled him.
Chimbende allegedly bit his finger while the other accomplice assaulted him once on the head with an empty bottle of beer.
Chitsungo fell to the ground, and they continued to assault him with kicks and claps several times all over the body leaving him with multiple injuries.
Chimbende and his accomplices stole a wallet from his trousers pocket which contained cash US$130, an ATM card, two cellphones, a national identity card, and a satchel containing some clothes and they went away.
The court heard that Chitsungo proceeded to ZRP Chinamhora Base at Zimbiru Business Centre to file a report.
Chimbende was arrested by police at Early Bird Night Club where he was standing by the veranda.
The value of the stolen property is US$288, cash USD$130 and nothing was recovered.
