A 25-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man has appeared in court for allegedly selling a commuter omnibus on behalf of a client before pocketing the proceeds.
Qhelezweni Mangena of Emganwini suburb appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Mr Archie Wochiwunga facing a charge of theft of trust property. He was released on US$100 bail and remanded to a later date.
As part of his bail conditions, Mangena was ordered to report at Nkulumane Police Station once a week, reside at his given address and not interfere with State witnesses until the matter is finalised.
Prosecuting, Mr Milton Moyo said on 18 June, the complainant, Thobekile Ncube (49), entrusted Mangena with her kombi, a Toyota Hiace (registration number ACL 4861) to sell on her behalf for US$4 500.
“On 20 June, the accused sold the vehicle to a buyer who paid the full amount,” said Mr Moyo.
The court heard that instead of handing over the proceeds to Ncube, Mangena allegedly converted the money to his own use.
When Ncube confronted him, Mangena failed to account for the funds and only paid US$700. The matter was reported to the police, leading to his arrest.
