A MAN from Harare who allegedly stole equipment from the National Railways of Zimbabwe worth US$660, has appeared in court.

Gwekwerere appeared before regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje on Thursday charged for being found in possession of railway equipment and was remanded in custody pending bail application.

It was alleged that on Tuesday at around 10am, NRZ loss control officer Mr Bardon Redson was with his workmate on a routine patrol in the yard.

They allegedly saw Gwekwerere standing suspiciously leading Mr Redson to suspect that he was looking for railway property. The security personnel watched him and saw he would grab property when no one was around, so they moved in.

Gwekwerere was found holding eight NRZ iron pins. They later recovered three NRZ brake blocks, one sole plae and two NRZ brake components all worth US$660.

Mr Tawanda Nyandoro appeared for the State.
