A Chinhoyi man has been sentenced to an effective 13 years in jail for raping his friend’s 10-year-old daughter.

Chinhoyi regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo convicted Luckson Chesango (25) after a full trial.

For the State, prosecutor Mr Trust Mukarati said the Grade Five pupil visited her father at Rainfield Farm in Chinhoyi during the school holidays in December 2016. It is within this period and on an unknown date that  Chesango asked the girl who was playing with her colleagues to collect a pot, which was in his bedroom.

Mr Mukarati said Chesango followed the girl into the bedroom before locking the door and threatened to stab her if she stopped him from raping her.

He raped the girl once before ordering her not to report the matter to anyone. The rape was discovered after the girl developed a venereal disease and she was taken to Shackleton Clinic for treatment. A report was subsequently made to the police, leading to Chesango’s arrest.
