A 27-year-old Bulawayo man has been sentenced to four years in prison for stabbing his wife several times using a kitchen knife following a dispute.
Andrew Mhlanga of Pumula South suburb was convicted on his own plea of guilty to a charge of attempted murder by Western Commonage regional magistrate, Mr Archie Wochiwunga.
One year was suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within that period.
He will now serve an effective three years in prison.
Prosecuting, Ms Christina Manyika told the court that Mhlanga had a misunderstanding with his wife at their home before she left for her maternal home in Old Magwegwe.
The court heard that on August 20, Mhlanga followed his wife to the Old Magwegwe house where he found her alone.
Mhlanga assaulted his wife before ordering her to accompany him back to their home in Pumula South.
Upon arrival, Mhlanga continued assaulting his wife, kicking her in the stomach several times.
He then went to the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen knife and stabbed her on different parts of the body.
Muchauri sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital, where she was admitted and received treatment.
A police report was made, leading to Mhlanga’s arrest.
