A GOKWE man who raped his 10-year old niece on four different occasions, has been sentenced to 40 years imprisonment.

The 30-year-old man was convicted on his own plea by regional magistrate Amos Mbobo.

The man will, however, serve an effective 38 years imprisonment after two years were conditionally suspended.

Prosecuting, Robert Ndlala told the court that in July last year, the accused was on different occasions left in the custody of his brother’s 10-year-old daughter and her twin brothers aged seven years by their mother. “On all four counts, the accused would go into the victim’s hut and sneak into her blankets during her sleep and rape her,” he said.

Ndlala said the girl started having difficulties in walking as she had sores on her private parts.

A relative asked her what the problem was and she revealed that she had been raped by the accused. A report was made to the police leading to his arrest.
