adminTanaka Nyoni, of house number 427 Dulibadzimu suburb in the border town, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to contravening a section of the Criminal Law (Reform and Codification) Act (assault) by Beitbridge magistrate Mr Carrington Karidzagundi.
He was sentenced to 12 months of which four months were suspended for five years on condition that he does not within that period commit a similar offence.
The prosecutor, Mr Marvelous Chikomo, said on 7 February, the two complainants, Constables Ishmael Rumatye and Phanuel Moyo were on duty patrolling Dulibadzimu suburb when they spotted Nyoni harassing people at a butchery.
They then descended on him during which Nyoni resisted arrest.
He became wild and grabbed Constable Rumatye’s reflector bib and tore it to shreds before he took Constable Moyo’s handcuffs and struck him on the forehead resulting in him sustaining a deep cut.
He was rushed to hospital where he was treated and discharged.
A report was made to the police leading to the arrest of Moyo.
